Long Beach is taking a significant step toward expanding affordable housing with the groundbreaking of The 101, a new supportive housing development located at 101 E. Pacific Coast Highway in the South Wrigley neighborhood. The project will feature 52 furnished one-bedroom apartments for households earning 30% or less of the Area Median Income.
Beyond just providing affordable homes, The 101 will include on-site support services such as job training, counseling, and community programs designed to help residents build stability and thrive. Shared community spaces will foster social connections and a strong sense of belonging among residents.
For commercial and multifamily property owners, projects like The 101 represent a growing trend in Long Beach’s approach to building mixed-income neighborhoods. Developments with wraparound services contribute to safer, healthier communities and more stable rental markets. These factors can positively impact nearby commercial activity and attract new opportunities for local businesses.
Construction on The 101 began in July 2025 and is expected to be completed by late 2026. Property owners and managers should watch how this and similar developments influence market dynamics and create potential partnerships with service providers and the city.
